Which brings us to 200 Cigarettes, another movie that probably wouldn't have been made – ever – if it weren't for Quentin Tarantino. Not that Tarantino has anything to do with this movie. He just popularized its aesthetic. This is another movie that follows about 600 characters as they wind through a night and – shockingly, amazingly – all sort of connect somehow. To top it off, it's a period piece. Or maybe a retro piece would be better way to put it, since it all takes place in the eighties. This movie is also not particularly good. Janeane Garofalo is shrill. Casey Affleck is slurry. The plot is thin and absent of emotion. It's not really a romance. It's not really a drama. And it's not funny enough to be a comedy. As a result, it's just kind of boring.
