Welcome
to Lucha Va Voom: wrestlers who hate to take their masks off and women
who love to take their shirts off.
Founded by Mexican wrestling fan Liz Fairbairn and burlesque dancer Rita
DAlbert, Lucha Va Voom goes a step farther, adding midget Mexican
wrestlers to the campy mix. The idea behind Lucha Va Voom was to speed
up Mexican wrestling by limiting matches to one fall, and to add burlesque
for some sexy fun. Instead of a ringside announcer, Va Voom features comedians
doing a running commentary during the event. And the midgets? That's just
entertainment.
Lucha Va Voom was playing to a sold-out house of local hipsters during
its second year of regular shows at the Mayan Theatre in Los Angeles,
so Fairbairn and D'Albert decided to take their show on the road. They
were rewarded with a successful three-city tour ending at Chicago's Park
West on Nov. 6. The Park West show featured legitimate Mexican wrestling
headliners Misterioso and Blue Demon Jr., as well as burlesque stars Kitten
DeVille and Eriocha Bamboo. There was also local girl Michelle LAmour,
founder of the Lavender Cabaret, and a surprise special appearance by
Tom Kenny, the voice of Sponge Bob SquarePants, who added color commentary
to ringside announcer/comedian Blaine Capatch.
Ive seen WWF wrestling, high school wrestling and kids wrestling
in the living room, but now that Ive seen Lucha Va Voom, it proves
everything works better with a little burlesque.
The next show will be Feb. 10, 2005, in Los Angeles, and Va Voom will
be back on the road with a scheduled stop in Chicago in March. Check www.luchavavoom.com
for more details.

Mexican Masked Wrestling, Burlesque & Comedy collide at...
Lucha VaVOOM
a Cinco de Mayo Spectacular!
May 5, 2005
The Congress Theater, Chicago
Superhero masked Mexican wrestlers battle evil with a comedic color commentary backdrop; the best burlesque stars from around the world break up the violencia with a little sexo; raucous south-of-the-border sounds fill the air...
The only show of its kind, Lucha VaVOOM made its debut in August, 2002 and has gone on to perform eight sold out shows at the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles. It has been featured on Jimmy Kimmel, Canada’s Much Music, BBC’s The Grill as well as Fox 11 News and Telemundo’s “The Roof.” TIME MAGAZINE declares “Lucha VaVOOM has a big future,” while Rolling Stone featured the show in their “Cool” issue, proclaiming “it’s enough to make even the most jaded Hollywood insider jump up and yell “Smackdown!” THE FACE reports “Lucha VAVOOM is the most exciting, bonkers show I’ve seen in ages...”
Lucha VaVOOM has chosen Chicago for their surreal Cinco de Mayo celebration; Lucha legend Blue Demon, Jr. returns to Chicago with Solar to battle the evil Rey Misterio and Psicosis (in his final appearance before joining the WWE). Ultra-minis and Lucha VaVOOM favorites Tsuki and Mascarita Sagrada take on full sized wrestlers! The lovely Poubelle Twins will face their toughest challenge yet, and Blaine Capatch (Beat the Geeks) and Tom Kenny (voice of Spongebob Squarepants) will be on hand to provide comedic commentary over the masked Mexican mayhem.
The Buxoticas dance between matches and feature two Miss Exoticworld champions; Kitten DeVille and Erochica Bamboo. Other crowd pleasers include Ursulina, Summer Peaches, Ming Dynatease and local favorite Toots L’Amour of the Lavendar Cabaret. We are also proud to present pogo-stick sensation Rocky Roulette, as well as the best new burlesque beauties we could get our hands on!
Lucha VaVOOM brings the bizarre world of ‘50’s & ‘60’s Lucha Cinema to life; where brave, masked wrestling crime fighters save the world from evil brains, vampires, the Bermuda Triangle, etc.; always with an obligatory stop at the local go-go bar. Don’t miss it!
