your vintage life | stefan

"I like the clothes, cars, furniture and music from the 1930s to the 1950s. However I would not like to live in that time period. Times were tough.

Not that this isn't the case nowadays, but in general the standard of living is higher than it was for the average middle-class person 50 or 60 years ago."

i really like the fact that these people wrote about why they choose to live vintage lives. sometimes it's tempting to celebrate or glorify history, but so often this action ignores many of history's tragedies and blunders that are just as important to remember.

it's the juxtaposition, man. which one is the reality? it's like the superman speech at the end of kill bill 2 ... which photograph is the real identity, masked by the other life?

I think I'd like these people if I knew them, but just seeing pictures I feel kinda sad for them. Anyone else?

I feel sadness but I think it is because I associate a lot of the "Vintageness" of these photos with the lifestyles of my grandparents, the so called "greatest generation." Listening to my grandparents reminisce about that period in history saddens me because I see them longing for their youth. It also saddens me because it seems like that was such a wonderful time to be alive in the U.S. But, as with any trip down memory lane, I’m sure it only seems that wonderful because my grandparents are only recalling the good times. Interesting comment though.
