Which brings me to the Academy Award-winning Billy Wilder flick, The Apartment . Starring Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine, this film is also kinda dark. It's the type of film wrongly billed as a comedy.
Basically, Lemmon is a sad schmuck who, in order to climb the corporate ladder, rents out his apartment to his bosses. They use it to bring their mistresses, one of which is the lovely MacLaine. Of course, Lemmon falls head over heels for her and realizes that, yes, love is more important than corporate success.
Lemmon's performance is of particular note. It inspired the performance of none other than Lester Burnham in.
