1550 CST Borders Books and Music, State and Lake
30 of 3610 “Dead Finks Don't Talk” by Brian Eno Quick run @ State/Lake Borders for bathroom break + spirit gum -- disguise in danger of being compromised if unable to locate effective mustache fixative. Will cowboy hat & shades keep me in the deep cover I so desperately need to cheat the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle and maintain scientific objectivity?
32 of 3610 “The Good Times Are Killing Me” by Modest Mouse Another song I'm hearing for the 1st time. Immediately take a liking to it becuz it begins w/b-roll of band joking around in the studio before the take that was evidently used for the final album. Always feel like I'm partying with the band when musicians pull this trick [viz. “Good Vibrations” (Unidentified Beach Boy: “Scratch it, Carl, scratch it!!” Unidentified groupie: Yelp of laughter) or The Beatles' Let it Be album (Lennon: “I dig a pygmy, by Charles Hawtrey and the Deaf Aids: Phase one, in which Doris gets her oats!” A very stoned McCartney: giggle giggle ]. If I ever learn guitar and make an album, I'd leave a track recorded @ a raging party playing continuously throughout to create illusion that my band's so monstrously talented we tossed off our latest genius LP while standing in line for the keg. So rock 'n' roll. 60 of 3610 “All Blues” by Miles Davis - Being a white guy in his 20s that owns two jazz albums – Miles Davis' “Kind of Blue” and John Coltrane's “Blue Train” – feels about as pathetic and clichéd as someone's dad buying Nevermind and Slanted and Enchanted to prove he's still hip. But just becuz it's clichéd and kind of patronizingly half-hearted, it still comes from a good place, a gesture of cultural goodwill that falls flat only becuz of the laziness behind it. Both indie rock and jazz are incredibly expansive, complex genres of music. Should someone be faulted for not having the energy to master connoisseurship of every art form, genre, & sub-genre? - These are the kind of half-baked profundities Miles invites you to indulge in as his Cool envelops you. My apologies. |
