A major protest against the United States-led invasion of Iraq took place March 20, 2003. That evening, a crowd - as many as 10,000 people, by some estimates - gathered in Chicago's Federal Plaza for an emergency anti-war protest and rally. The demonstration led to an evening march down Lake Shore Drive that resulted in 543 arrests. Exactly one year later, crowds gathered at the Chicago Water Tower to finish the march they had started in 2003 and to show their continuing disapproval of the war in Iraq.
