20 of 3610 “Guilty Conscience” by Eminem
- Dr. Dre and Slim S. unpack the undying philosophical question of whether there is something like a universal morality or whether, as Dostoevsky's Raskolnikov claimed, “everything is allowed,” by examining prickly ethical situations like whether it is acceptable for a person to rob and kill an elderly liquor store cashier or rape an unconscious young woman at a frat party.

87 of 3610 “Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun” by The Beastie Boys
-
Did the Beasties really play all the instruments on Check Your Head ? I would estimate that this question occurs to me about 4x/year. Not a bad one – interrogates feelings of admiration for Beasties vs. well-honed dubiousness of authenticity of heavily-marketed major label acts. Ad-Rock wouldn't lie to us ... or would he ?

90 of 3610 “Jynweythek Ylow” by Aphex Twin
-Music made & played entirely on silicon by the guy who just seems “futuristic” comes on the iPod. But I skipped ahead thru several songs that didn't seem appropriate enough for my moment of transcendence, & I don't like Aphex Twin all that much anyway & plus I'm getting tired and I want to get back to my decidedly un-futuristic apartment designed by some sturdy Pole who had never even heard the word “postmodernism.”

go back keep going
