choose your own adventure | thursday night out | Jason Heidemann choose your own adventure | thursday night out | Jason Heidemann

Sound judgment gets the better of you and you decide to let this one go. You politely hand over the cab to her and catch the next one that comes by.

“The Field Museum ,” you tell the cab driver, who then proceeds to make a beeline for downtown and the museum campus. You call your co-worker Natasha on her cell and she picks up, but you're not getting good reception on your phone.

“ I can barely… the music is really loud in here,” she says, “and reception … meet me near the ... Sue …,” but you are unable to make out what she is saying so you hang up your phone in frustration wondering why you ever listened to Joan Cusack.

You pay the cabbie and wander up the front steps of the museum. There are people hovering out front, some are sitting on the steps and talking while others are smoking idly. Banners for the new Kennedy exhibition loom largely over head as you enter through the front doors.

You are greeted by the sweet sounds of a jazz quartet which is nicely covering the cacophonous sounds of party chatter like a blanket. The crowd is standing in the cavernous main lobby and is made up mostly of highly charged cocktail goers, socialites and singles on the prowl. Where did Natasha want you to meet her? Was it by Sue the T-Rex, or was that the name of the friend she wanted you to meet? You survey the room, but are unable to find her. Frustrated you order a gin and tonic and plot your next move.

You could stand by Sue the T-Rex and hope that she and her friend will make an appearance in a few minutes by turning to page 2.

Alternatively, you could start wandering around and try to find her yourself by turning to page 19.

but it was in nyc. here are the highlights:

• My friend got up from the park bench 5 seconds *before* the pigeon put shit where she was sitting.

• We decided *not* to go to the Mouse Bloc rally, where if we had gone we would have 1. been late and 2. gotten arrested.

• we decided *to join* the spontaneous march leaving the park. Spent the next 24 in the slammer.
