"Cock Mobster"
MC Paul Barman
from Paullelujah!, released 2002 on Coup d' Etat Entertainment.

There are points in pop boasting, like the last Hell-bound track for instance, when one has to judge the sincerity of what's being sung. Again, in the last song, it's frighteningly sincere. For this track, well, just look at the title again. Barman is what happens when grad students are allowed to do hip-hop albums as a thesis. His rhymes are scattered and paradigm randomness, sounds torn from the pages of the NY Times, name-dropping MF Doom and John Cage at the same bar in the same four bars. But then, some boasts do tend to go too far, and, well, look at the title again. This pop song bounces and weaves, the lyrics clever and on-mark, all so that MC Paul Barman can list to us all the women he'd like to have slept with. On the illustrious roster: Lisa Loeb, Christie Alley and Isabella Rossellini. Were it not for the fact that list has no definitive aesthetic make-up, or that Barman looks like the younger cousin of Carrot Top, this song would be so over-the-top with its machismo, rendering it unlistenable. This is just slightly more charming. This is a pop for those reaching far beyond their means, for those that knowingly desire what is only illusion. To the overweight, TV-kissing boys that spent study hall making definitive, cross-referenced inventory of the movie stars they would and would not sleep with, this Coke's for you.
