So he's not brilliant- simply pairing this song, which is the album's strongest, with Ghostface proves that- but musical prodigies get old. For your money, spend it on someone honest and on your level for a change. The new album, a concept piece (insert spine shiver here), works for the reason that the concept is simple and not conceptual. In this case it actually helps to keep Mike Skinner, vocalist and garage producer, focused. Though the garage-lite beats can be a little thin and a chorus occasionally grating, the narrative thread strings the listener through a day gone from bad to worse. In this cut, the next to last, there is emotion that can only be garnered from true and recent experience. It's the breakup dance again, but here is the end of a relationship that the listener has witnessed from the start, and we feel him as he tries to force the girl to meet his eyes. He goes through the motions of someone who knows that the end is nigh and that there is nothing left to lose. Sooner than walk away, he tries everything left: waist grabbing, desperation-gripped hugs, demands, the pathetic logic of promises and begging accusations. Skinner lists failed attempts so numerous that it becomes clear that he no longer hopes to get the girl back, but is settling for a punishing display of how much pain she's caused him. Everyone can wish they don't know where this is coming from. You can only hope that the next track will wrap everything together, tied up nice and silver-lined. Hope that you can relate to that one, too.

long notes/sounds of ambience/silence dont necessarily add up to the thematic idea of endless beginless.. but whatever, as much as that doesnt make sense, i think Throbbing Gristle's track should be changed to "Hamburger Lady' and Xiu Xiu's track should be changed from the corny 'fabulous muscles' to the outstanding/vibrant/so-much-muscle-that-its-actually-off-the-ep track "jennifer lopez." oh well, that is just my humble opinion. yeah, that and dry your eyes makes me warm.
